Venartis ®  – The Art to Prevent Vein disease

A non-profit information site.

FOUNDATION

Venartis.org is a private non-profit foundation. The name “Venartis” comes from “The Art of Vein Therapy”. Medicine is a very special kind of craft, dealing with the highest value – our health. But sometimes, a standard craft is not enough. In every nasty disease, patients will ask: “Is that everything there is? Can´t his disease be prevented, or at least well healed?” Now, if it´s more than a craft, it may be an art, simply going beyond the standards. The highest level in medicine is prevention. Effective preventive care helps avoid discomfort, health limitations, future surgeries, or the need for cumbersome assistive devices.

PROJECTS

This year, we are concluding our 10-year survey on vein disease in children. It is evident meanwhile that varicose veins are based on congenital vein valve damage. We are going to learn which lesions will have fast progression, and which may last stable subclinical for decades. We will also report on a clinical study on the new method of hyaluronan-based vein valve repair.

Research on pressure-induced vein valve damage is proceeding. While general pressure increase by long-term sitting or standing which can partially counteracted by compression stockings, the progression of mechanical valve damage is not at all met by traditional compression. Thus, stockings may reduce discomfort and edema in late stages of insufficiency, but they do not contribute to causal early-stage prevention
